The last few weeks have been a drastic change for everybody. However, some of the people who have been hit the hardest are low-income students who are now unable to continue their studies because they do not have a computer or internet access in their homes. There are over 82 million Americans lacking internet connectivity and a computer in the home – 1 in 5 students. Luckily, during these unprecedented times, human-I-T is able to offer support to those who need our help.
In March 2020, we received requests for over 55,000 laptops (this number is expected to grow substantially), and we received commitments to fund and distribute 11,000 of them so far! We are working tirelessly with corporations, individuals, and foundations to establish funding for the remaining requests. Thus far we have:
- Distributed 4,400 devices to low-income individuals
- Received over 5,500 requests for internet connectivity in just a few short weeks
- So far 392 of those families were connected to high-speed, home internet and our team has all hands on deck to connect the rest
human-I-T’s CEO, Gabe Middleton, stated, “We would like to thank all the people and organizations who are donating funds, connecting us to school districts and nonprofit organizations in need of our services, and generally supporting us during the COVID-19 pandemic. Community is more important now than ever, and we are truly grateful for ours.”
With our donors, partners, and supporters, human-I-T has collected over $350,000 this last month to aid low-income individuals gain access to computers and internet connectivity. While this will provide opportunities to many people, there are still a lot more that need our help.
