At Human-I-T, we’re constantly evolving to minimize our environmental impact and make partnering with us more efficient for you.

In the past few months, we’ve implemented a trifecta of improvements that are transforming our operations, enhancing stakeholder value, and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable operations.

How We’re Accelerating Device Readiness with Cutting-Edge Imaging Infrastructure

Our Los Angeles facility has undergone a major upgrade, significantly expanding our imaging capacity. Our new infrastructure enables us to quickly and easily install custom images and software add-ons onto devices. And, by doing so, we provide a more tailored solution for our partners’ needs.

For our technology donation partners like AT&T, Visa, CSUDH, and Methodist Health Ministries, this means faster order fulfillment and more customized devices. We can now prepare and ship devices more rapidly. Enhanced delivery measures ensure even more timely delivery of technology to those who need it most.

This expansion is a game-changer for Human-I-T’s scalability. We’re now better positioned to meet growing demand, supporting future growth and allowing us to respond quickly to market needs. With plans to increase capacity in Detroit, we’re setting the stage for nationwide environmental impact and growth. This increases our ability to bridge the digital divide across the country.

Full Device Refurbishment: One Touch, Maximum Environmental Impact

2024 saw the launch of our Full Device Refurbishment (FDR) process – a true revolution in how we breathe new life into donated technology. This comprehensive workflow tackles everything from cosmetic assessments to data wiping, repairs, and software installation in one seamless operation.

For our tech donors, this ensures their donations’  impact is maximized to their fullest potential. Recipients benefit from higher-quality, fully rejuvenated devices that are ready to empower their digital journey.

The FDR process is evidence of our commitment to reuse over recycling. By diverting more laptops to our programs instead of purchasing new ones, we’ve already saved over $400,000 in 2024. These funds can now be channeled into expanding our reach and impact.

Right-Sizing Our Environmental Footprint with Packsize

In a bold move towards sustainability, we’ve partnered with Packsize to bring custom box-making capabilities in-house at our Los Angeles facility. This cutting-edge machine creates packaging tailored to each product’s exact dimensions, eliminating excess materials and the need for wasteful fillers.

For our customers, this translates to a premium unboxing experience with minimal waste – a tangible demonstration of our eco-conscious values. It also means our customers, inadvertently, contribute to a more positive impact on the environment! But the benefits extend far beyond aesthetics. We’re projecting annual savings of over $250,000 in shipping and freight costs. Those resources can now be redirected to core mission activities.

This initiative is a powerful statement of our commitment to environmental stewardship and cost savings for our partners. By dramatically reducing our packaging footprint, we’re setting a new standard for sustainability in the tech refurbishment industry.

As we look to the future, these improvements form the foundation for even greater social and environmental impact. We’re reimagining what’s possible in the world of digital equity and environmental responsibility. With each upgrade, each process refinement, and each box right-sized, we’re building a more connected, sustainable world – one device at a time.
