With Earth Month well underway and Earth Day fast-approaching, now is a better time than ever to reflect on our interactions with our environment.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much work to figure out that our environment is in trouble. Look on the side of our highways, or the fields of our parks, or even deep into the throngs of the wilderness, and you’ll likely find a surprising amount of trash.
Scratch that – a ton of trash.
According to a recent report, 2.3 billion tons of municipal solid waste are produced annually (enough to fill 822,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools) with nearly half of it being unsustainably disposed of in ways that harm and pollute the environment.
We believe that the best way we can confront the calamitous amount of physical waste polluting our natural world and overrunning our lived-in environments is by tackling the issue head-on.
That’s why we were thrilled to learn that Avocado Green Brands, a partner with human-I-T in sustainably managing e-waste and bridging the digital divide, is launching their Earth Day Cleanup Initiative!
From Monday, April 12 through Friday, April 30, all Avocado employees will be able to earn eight paid volunteer hours by getting outside and cleaning up their local park, trail, beach, or any other outdoor spaces.
In fact, human-I-T was so inspired by Avocado’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship that we decided to launch a cleanup of our own! On Saturday, April 24, employees in our Long Beach office will be able to volunteer to help clean up a beach in their community. We’ll also encourage employees of our Detroit office to go out and pick up litter in their communities on the same day,
We also agree with Avocado: the impact of this cleanup initiative shouldn’t be limited to just the employees of a few companies. So, to get as many people as possible involved and excited about making their community a healthier, more beautiful place to live, we encourage you to join Avocado’s Literatti campaign!
By joining the campaign, you’ll get to see exactly just how much trash you and fellow do-gooders are picking up, and where it’s all being picked up from.
To join the campaign, just download the Litterati App and use the code AVOFRIENDS.
We encourage you to invite others to join this challenge, too.
There’s a whole planet to clean, after all!
