Due to COVID-19, formal education has had to adapt to remote learning; something that is not possible for students left on the wrong side of the digital divide. The city of Detroit took quick action to ensure their public school students have the digital tools they need to successfully continue their schooling from home. With creativity and collaboration, the Connected Futures initiative was born.
Connected Futures will equip 51,000 Detroit students at no cost with personal tablets that include six months of LTE internet access. With this resource, students will also be provided with ongoing tech support from human-I-T that can be accessed via text message or phone call, making it simple for students to reach out for help.
Additionally, human-I-T is proud to offer our assistance in helping the students’ families in signing up for a low-cost internet plan ($10-15/month) that would allow the whole household to connect to a broadband network.
human-I-T is honored to partner with the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), the DTE Energy Foundation, The City of Detroit Director of Digital Inclusion, GM, Quicken Loans Community Fund and the Skillman Foundation on the Connected Futures initiative.
